ToggleVerquvo® (Vericiguat) Overview
Purpose
Verquvo is an oral medication prescribed for adults with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF, EF < 45%). It is primarily used to:
- Reduce the risk of severe cardiovascular events.
- Lower the likelihood of hospitalization due to heart failure.
Mechanism of Action
- Soluble Guanylate Cyclase (sGC) Stimulator: Verquvo increases cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) levels.
- This leads to vasodilation and improved cardiac function.
Symptoms of Heart Failure Treated
- Shortness of breath.
- Fatigue and reduced exercise capacity.
- Fluid retention (edema).
- Accelerated heartbeat.
Dosage and Administration
- Starting Dose: 2.5 mg once daily.
- Titration: Increased to 5 mg daily after two weeks, and then up to the maximum dose of 10 mg daily, based on tolerance.
- Administration:
- Take one tablet daily with food.
- Tablets can be crushed and mixed with water if swallowing is difficult.
Common Side Effects
Related to Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension)
- Blurry vision.
- Dizziness or light-headedness.
- Syncope (fainting).
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Sleepiness or confusion.
Other Side Effects
- Anemia: Reduced red blood cell count.
- Indigestion: Dyspepsia or heartburn.
Important Advice
- If symptoms of low blood pressure occur (e.g., dizziness or fainting), contact your doctor immediately. Dosage adjustments or temporary cessation may be necessary.
- Persistent or worsening side effects should be reported to your doctor or pharmacist.
